How to create AR ads on Instagram and Facebook
April 05, 2023 (2 years ago)
As we mentioned earlier, we're expanding our AR features by launching AR advertisements on Instagram, powered by Meta Spark, currently available in open beta. By integrating AR technology, businesses can deliver captivating and interactive experiences that enable customers to virtually try their products, boost engagement and reinforce brand recognition. Advertisers can now scale their AR effects across Facebook and Instagram using the Awareness, Reach and Traffic objectives. Including augmented reality effects in mobile ads can elevate campaign performance, and we have observed that incorporating Facebook AR ads into current campaign strategies adds extra value for advertisers
"Through an AR ad unit, viewers have the option to click on the call-to-action button and access the AR Ads Camera. This allows them to:
Engage with the AR Experience.
Capture a photo or video by tapping or holding the shutter button, and then share it on their Instagram Stories for others to view the advertisement.
Tap on the call-to-action button located at the bottom of the camera to proceed to a URL.
This enables businesses to prompt viewers to visit their website for more information or to make a purchase, among other things."
How to create AR ads
"To begin creating AR ads, follow these steps:
Access Ads Manager. Click on the green + Create button.
Select a campaign objective that supports AR ads, such as Brand Awareness, Traffic, Conversions (Facebook only), or Reach.
Enter all necessary campaign and ad set details. At the ad level, choose "Add an Instant Experience." Click on "Choose a template" and choose the AR experience template. This will open a new pop-up window."
"To select your desired ad effect for the AR ad, follow these steps:
Tap on the Effect option. Only approved effects will be displayed in the drop-down list.
Choose the camera you want your AR effect to use, either front or back, by selecting the Camera facing drop-down. Select a call-to-action label and enter a website URL in the Destination section. Please note that the URL must start with "https".
To preview the AR effect on your mobile device, select Preview on Mobile. A notification will appear in your Facebook app. Lastly, tap Done to finalize the creation of your AR ad."
"To add a video to your AR ad, proceed as follows:
In the Ad Creative section, select Add video. Choose the desired video for your ad and select Next.
If applicable, adjust the creative, then select Done. Please note that video creative is mandatory for AR ads. Enter the primary text and headline for your video ad.
To display the "Open camera" label on your ad, leave "Display link" blank. Under "Text Overlay," choose the call-to-action that you want viewers to take after watching your video.
To preview the entire AR ad, click on the three dots located in the top-right corner and select Send Notification to Facebook. You will receive a notification on your mobile device via the Facebook app. Lastly, select Publish to publish your AR ad."
